Anthony suppresses a chuckle. He has only spoken to Neil once or twice, but from what he has seen (and what Guy has said), Gabriel’s description sounds about like he would expect. Neil Perry can be awfully skittish. Naturally, Anthony doesn’t have the same concern; for one thing, this isn’t his first Catholic mass. “Well, I promise to remain a sober observer,” he says wryly.

At the comment about Gabriel’s erstwhile Protestant girlfriend, he snorts quietly. Yes, Catholicism may be guilty of putting style over substance, put at least it led to art. Meanwhile, Protestants were too busy wringing hidden meanings out of the very space between words in the each Biblical chapter and verse.
